I wanna be a superhero

I still remember the first comic book I ever owned/read. We were moving from New Jersey to Iowa, and at some gas station along the way, my dad bought me a Superman/Plasticman team-up. I was in the 1st grade. I became a hardcore collector from Jr. High up until I got married (funny how collection hobbies seem to end at that period in peoples’ lives). Superman has always had a special place in my heart, though I certainly followed the exploits of other heroes. As my interest in writing grew, and I was introduced to the Marvel RPG, I started creating my own universe of costumed crusaders. I still dream of one day writing my own comic.
In the meantime, the possibility of seeing my superheroes in action has found new life in the first ever superhero MMORPG City of Heroes. I first heard about this game a couple years ago, but only began to keep up with developments in the last couple months. Well, the beta NDA has been lifted and the game has gone gold, with the expected appearance in stores at the end of April. It has been interesting reading the posts of beta testers. One thing I noted in particular was the difference in verbiage being used by those who liked the game, and those who don’t. Most negative reviews contain terms like “grinding,” “loot,” “treadmill,” “bosses,” and “endgame.” Positive reviews talk about “super villains,” the play environment, “teaming,” ease of use, and character customization.
This is the first MMORPG that I am even remotely interested in. However, as the release date has loomed, I have come to realize that I really have neither the time, nor the money, to invest in the experience. Computer gaming as a whole has taken a back seat in the last year. So, I’m left with hoping that CoH will stick around for a year or more. Maybe then, I’ll finally be able to don the mask and cape as a hero for justice.
