Coming out of a slump

I wrote 400+ words last night. Not a terribly significant accomplishment in and of itself. However, as I was entering the count on my spreadsheet (yes, I use a spreadsheet to track my wordcount), I noticed an encouraging trend. This was the third night in a row of 300+ words. In fact, this was the third night in a row of writing, period.

Over the last couple months, it has been a struggle to write. There were a lot of “200 or less” nights, and too many weeks where I had spent only one or two days writing. I haven’t had a 1000+ word session since February.

I’m looking forward to my 4th night in a row tonight. I’m right in the middle of a great action sequence, a pivotal moment in the course of the plot as the protagonist becomes a more active agent in the story. There’s spellslinging, death, and a great chase scene.

It’s going to be hard focusing on work today.
