Progress or play?

The wife is taking the kid down to California to visit her grandparents next week. They leave this coming Sunday afternoon and will get back Memorial Day. This will be the longest I’ve been away from my boy. I’ll miss them both, the more so as the week wears on. I don’t sleep well when I’m in the house all alone.

I expect to get a lot of writing done, however. As much as I love my family, they are a huge distraction and demand on time. I don’t begrudge them that, I’m simply stating a fact. For the next week, though, I’ll be able to sit down at the computer as soon as I get home, and stay there until I can’t keep my eyes open. I’ve set a goal to complete chapter 5 before they get back.

Inevitably, I’ll waste some time playing, especially those first couple days. I’m close to finishing the Shadows of Undrentide expansion for Neverwinter Nights, so I’m already accounting for a few hours spent on that. And I still have to put together the 5th level water genasi druid I decided to play in my gaming group’s campaign that starts on the 29th. The key will be to exert enough discipline that I don’t blow the whole week.
