A preview of me

A couple months back, I got a request to read a sample of my work from one of the guys in the writing group I’m part of at Forward Motion. I had a short story that I was working on and was going to post for critique in our private forum, but tabled it when I was asked to write something for Realms of the Dragons II.

Over the weekend, I was talking with Sean M. and he mentioned he was applying for a job at BioWare. That reminded me of when I had applied for a position there as a designer back when Neverwinter Nights was in the late stages of development. One of the requirements was to send in a sample of writing. I didn’t keep a copy of it, but I remembered posting it to TrickyBuddha’s Creative Stylings forum, hoping to get comments before I sent it in.

After doing some minor edits, I’ve decided to post it here for your reading pleasure. I’m breaking it up into three parts because of it’s length, so it’ll run tomorrow through Thursday. Some of you have already seen it (along with other things I’ve written), and some of you may have read the various Writer’s Challenges I posted on the old WotC FR Novels forums, so you’re already familiar with my style. For those who haven’t, this can serve as a preview of what to expect with Maiden of Pain. And because it contains someone else’s copyrighted material, it’s merely fanfic and therefore not something I could sell, so I have no qualms about publishing it electronically.
