Not getting much sleep

Filed under AFK on June 8, 2004

I’m going to depart from the standard theme of topics usually covered and share something personal today. Okay, I’m going to gripe. I apologize, as those who are not parents probably won’t find this of as much interest as those who are.

My son is going through a development spurt. He just turned 9 months. In the last couple weeks, he has learned to crawl and can pull himself up to a standing position. I’m simply amazed at how quickly this happened.

Unfortunately, he now also feels that he can no longer sleep in the crib. It is a fight to put him to bed every night. No matter how much he rubs his eyes, or nods off while sitting in someone’s lap, the second we lay him down and leave the room, he stands up and starts to cry.

Usually, within 10 minutes or so, we can get him to fall asleep. However, he now regularly wakes up at 2am and 5am and starts the process all over. For the last 5-6 months, he’s been sleeping through the night. I realize this is probably a phase, but it sure is a rude awakening from the relative bliss parenting has been so far.
