Too light of hand and slow of foot

Well, it looks like I won’t be moving to Renton anytime soon. I emailed Wizards’ HR and heard back concerning the RPG editor position. It seems that I have “too light of a hand,” which in editor-speak means I didn’t catch all the errors they wanted me to. It wasn’t until I got this news that I realized how unhappy I was with my current unemployment. I’ve been half-heartedly looking through online job boards, but now I think I’m going to put a little more effort into it.

The problem I have with answering job ads is that it seems they’re often filled by the time you answer them. For example, I was looking through the online want ads of our local paper and saw a web content writer position. The post date was yesterday. I immediately sent out an email with my resume and some writing samples. A few minutes later I got an autoresponse back saying they were in the final selection phase and would not be accepting any new applications.

Now, I should mention that I saw this ad last week on craigslist.org, but why repost it in the newspaper if you weren’t going to take any more candidates? I guess I really can’t blame anybody but myself for putting off responding, but it didn’t help the mood I was already in last night.
