So, how’s the writing going, anyway?

I haven’t given a real update recently, other than some vague whining, so I thought I’d bring you up to speed with where I am in the novel. I finished chapter seven over the weekend and got a good start on chapter 8 last night. I’m not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but there are twelve chapters planned, plus a prologue and epilogue.
The body count is starting to pile up, for both the good guys and the bad. I’ve killed off three named characters so far: one in a flashback early on, one in the last chapter and one in the current.
I’m having fun with the villians in this story. I’ve decided to portray the Karanoks less as maniacal evildoers and more like zealous practitioners who are doing their best to uphold their faith. I’m currently working on a touching father-daughter scene where Jaerios consoles Kaestra while wizards are burning at the stake in the background. I don’t think the reader will be sympathetic to the Karanoks, or get the impression that they aren’t evil. That’s not my intention. I did, however, want to portray a little more complexity in my antagonists.
