What Phil said

It takes something special to be an editor. Editing is not just critiquing, it’s handholding. It requires people skills. I am not an editor. I have been known to make people cry with my comments on their work. I don’t mean to, it’s just the tone of voice I use, or how I phrase something.

I got Phil’s notes on Maiden today. Even though I turned in a manuscript only 2/3 the required length, Phil still made me feel like a winner. I have a feeling he could tell me that I suck and I’ll never make it as a writer and I’d give him a big “thank you” hug. His suggestions were great. He pointed out that I seem to do a lot of things “off stage.” Perhaps this is because I have never written a novel before. I’m so used to word count restrictions that I don’t elaborate where I can, or should. I can’t tell you how much I wanted to stay home this afternoon and jump right in. I’m very excited about the directions Phil wants me to take.

Perhaps the biggest news that Phil slipped in with his notes was that chapter 4 of Maiden will be included as a teaser with Realms of the Dragons II. Also, they’re bumping Maiden’s release up to June from July.
