Missed anniversary

I had a nice four-day holiday weekend. It was Thanksgiving here in the States, and we went over to my folks’ for turkey. My mom had just bought the latest Harry Potter movie on DVD, so we watched that. It was the first time I saw it. After the first movie, I swore I would not pay money for anything Harry Potter. The movies are entertaining, but I couldn’t even make it through the first chapter of the first book. I’m not a big fan of formulaic stories. I mean, after the third year of having to hire a Dark Arts professor, you’d think Hogwarts would either include background checks as part of their hiring process, or shut the department down all together.
The last seven to ten days have seen me return to a steady writing schedule. I’ve finished the first third of the revisions, but with only a week left on the deadline, it’s too close to call on whether I’ll make it. Based on my productivity on the first draft, I should hit it.
One thing I realized I totally missed was my one year anniversary of winning the open call. I can’t believe I’ve been working on this book for a year. I’m certainly ready to be done with it. A year on any single project is too long for me. Still, I am incredibly thankful for this opportunity, and amazed that I’ve been living a dream for the last year.
