I woke up a little after midnight in a minor panic. Ed Gentry had coralled a bunch of us for a special project. Each person needed to submit about 500 words. The contribution was due December 3rd, but Ed wanted everything by the first so he could lump it all together. I had totally forgot about it! Unable to sleep as my mind raced, I got up, pounded out my portion, mailed it off and was back in bed by 2am.
I also conceded that I would not hit my deadline for Maiden. I had about 20k words left, and less than a week to write them. I emailed Phil before I went to bed, and spent all morning anxiously monitoring my Inbox via webmail, awaiting the smackdown from him. I should have known better. True to form, Phil graciously gave me the rest of the month. Realistically, I should be done before Christmas.
Once again, I’m thankful for Phil’s flexibility. I just hope I’m not turning into a high-maintenance author.
