Pens & Swords v2.0

Almost a month off schedule, but here it is. The new Pens & Swords is more than just a facelift, so I thought I’d give a tour. Starting on the home page, a news item will be posted everytime I add a blog entry, book into the library, or schedule a new event (those will be few and far between). Each news item will have a link to the appropriate page.

Perhaps the biggest change is the blog. I’m now using Wordpress instead of Blogger. It is quite a bit more flexible, and uses PHP instead of proprietary code. You will have to register in order to post comments. Yes, that’s right, blog comments will now be attached to the blog posts. I’ve closed and archived the old forum.

That brings us to the forums. Not much has changed there, though I still plan on it. My plate is quickly filling with other, more important projects, however. If anyone out theres is a phpBB guru and would like to lend a hand in updating the .tpl files so that the forum fits into the page layout of the rest of the site, drop me a line.

The rest of the changes are fairly self-explanatory. Take a look around and tell me what you think. If you find anything broken, I want to know about that, too.

This was not an individual effort, and I would like to thank the following for their help. Josh Davidson provided the sword illustration used in the banner image. Scott Shaver lent a hand troubleshooting some CSS difficulties. And my very talented friend Aaron Klump took care of the PHP programming.

It’s good to be blogging again. Tomorrow I’ll post more about what my writing plans are.
