Filling in details

I added a page to my outline for The Shattered Amulet over the weekend. This is a chapter-by-chapter outline that I’m working on. The main points for each chapter have been set out for a while, about a sentence for each. Most of the chapters even have two or three subpoints. What I’m doing now is filling in detail.

“Detail” is subjective. For instance, I plotted out 15 different points for a major combat scene in one chapter, while an earlier jailbreak had only five. It’s really a matter of identifying what I need to help me come back and write it out later. The outline is currently six pages long. My goal is to get it between 17 and 20 before I start writing.
