Dragons loom

I can’t believe it’s almost here. Realms of the Dragons 2 will release on May 6th, and should be in bookstores a week later. Maiden of Pain follows a month later. The excitement is starting to build again.

All eleven contributors to RotD2 have been asked by WotC to put together a promotional piece that will be published on their website. J.L. Collins is organizing a collective storytelling effort. Each author will be limited to 100 words. Someone will start the story then pass it on to the next author. It’s like that old campfire game where you sit in a circle telling a ghost story, but the person next to you takes over whenever you say “and then . . . .”

We have a very general story idea, but no overall plot arc. The intent is for it to be a humorous take on ourselves if we were characters in a fantasy world.

Saaa-weet! I can’t wait, Kam! I’m out of school in two months (May 26th, to be exact :p) and once I am I’ll read the crap out of it.

Also, that project you all are working on sounds fun. Will us readers ever find out who’s the author of what piece?

With all the talent contributing to the story — even if it is framed as a farce — I’m more than a little intimidated.

Just to clarify a point about Kameron’s premature announcement.

All eleven authors are contributing to a short story that we will present to Wizards of the Coast as a promotional piece to be posted on their website for the anthology.

At this stage, they have not seen the story, so they reserve the right to refuse it if they don’t feel it is suitable.

Also, I actually approached Wizards with an offer to do some author-driven promotional work to help with the anthology. This is a little different than what they usually advertise, perhaps with the exception of their April 1st events each year.

Once the story is complete, we will submit it to Wizards for their approval. Hopefully they recognize the humour in it, and post it for our fans.

As to which authors wrote which pieces, it will likely be obvious once the story is finished. If Wizards likes it, everyone will find out together.
