Catan Online

My friend Wan Gai informed me Saturday that MSN’s Zone is previewing an online version of Settlers of Catan. A huge fan of the game, I spent a good chunk of the weekend playing against the computer, and live opponents. It was fun. The online version is very true to the board game. One feature I did think they could add was alternate maps.

MSN plans to list Catan Online as one of their Premier games, meaning it will require a monthly or yearly subscription to continue playing. Depending on the price, I could see subscribing. There will be a rated game you can play against live players, like a ladder competition. You can also download a version for $30, about $10 less than the board game. Unfortunately, that version only allows single-player play against computer opponents, as far as I can tell.

Some folks have already gotten their hands on Dragon #332, which is the issue with the article co-written by 5 of the authors from RotD2, including myself. According to Ed, the article was heavily edited from the final version we gave them.

Oh, yeah, a big congratulations to my friend and fellow author Harley Stroh, a semi-finalist in the White Wolf open call.

Update
Wizards has posted the story written collectively by the authors of RotD2. We limited ourselves to 100 words each, which made some transitions between entries a bit abrupt, but Phil–ever the editor–smoothed out the rough edges with some additions of his own.

Thanks for the heads up — still haven’t heard any official word from the White Wolf folks.

BTW: Any other _important_ news you need to tell us?

My copy of Goblin Tales came in the mail today. Is that what you were fishing for? ;)

Well, I was fishing for something else, but a good fisherman knows when to reel in his lines…
