Not immune

Back in April I was contacted by WotC and asked to submit a proposal for a second book. Like Maiden of Pain, it would be part of a series of stand alone novels that focused on a similar theme.

I just heard back today that my proposal was not one of the ones selected.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. On the bright side, it means I can totally focus on my own work. And boy, do I need to. I have been neglecting my writing for almost six months now. It was a conscious decision, a matter of prioritizing based on some personal issues, but if I take an honest look back, I could have devoted at least some time. Instead, I think I let the possibility of a second contract with Wizards occupy that corner of my mind that should have been pushing me to keep working on my own stuff.

With that possibility now gone for the present time, I need to spend some serious effort playing catch-up on the goal I had set for myself at the beginning of the year. Loghan, here I come.

Ah, how well I know that feeling! Sorry, Kam, but, as you say, it clears your slate for your own work, and that’s never a bad thing. :)

No, not at all. I remember when I was on the home stretch with Maiden, I honestly didn’t care if I got another FR gig. I had my own stuff, and that was fine. I think the disappoint came from being offered a chance and not getting it.

Sorry to hear that, Kam. But, looking at the circumstances, I don’t see a whole lot to complain about. Get your pen goin’!

    I’m such a jerk. Heh.

Oof. That really deflated me this morning. I’m sorry to hear that news. :(

    RE: lost time
That reminds me of the stretch between submitting my MoP proposal and learning some guy named Kameron won. ;) I couldn’t concentrate on my own stuff because some where in the back of my head I kept thinking, “What if?” Luckily I got over that with the Eberron call. I sent that one out, promptly forgot about it, and got back into my own work.

Sorry to hear it, but at least it frees your mind to move on to you own work now!

BTW, if I actually did come off as a jerk right there, I didn’t mean to. I was just pointing out that it IS a good thing you have more time for Arunda now.

I agree 100%, Ian. My Sense Motive check detected no jerkiness. ;)
