“Boxed” would be more accurate, but doesn’t make as catchy a title. Patience, I will explain.
The desk on which my computer sits, the desk where I do my writing, has two sets of shelves, bracketing the space where the monitor sits. The set of shelves on the right is divided in half vertically (so as to create two shelves, one on top of the other), and is where I keep all my CD-Roms, zip disks, and floppies.
The set of shelves on the left is divided in thirds horizontally. The three spaces are tall enough to fit oversized books in them. In the first section, I have a dictionary, thesaurus, Chicago Manual of Style, and Strunk & White. In the next section, I have my 3.5E core books. Ever since I won MoP, I’ve kept all my hardbound FR source books in the final section.
I took them down and put them in the box with all my other D&D stuff yesterday.

Oof.

Does that mean you’re not planning on writing anything else for them?

Not any time in the near future. My proposal for the Dungeon series was not accepted, and they’ve filled their slots through 2008. I’m focusing on my own stuff, and if that takes off in the next two years, I may not have time to return to FR, if and when they have something available.

So you won’t even keep them out just to peruse once in awhile? Strange. Just like that you’re seperating your connection with FR (after years of being an FR fan)? You’d better set this stright for us because it sounds a little like sour grapes. Are you upset with WotC?

Oh, I’ll pull them out every once in a while. The campaign my RL gaming group is playing is set in FR. I just won’t need them often enough (we meet twice a month)to warrant the space they were occupying.
As to my feelings toward WotC, I readily admit I was disappointed in not getting the second novel. If things work out for future opportunities in FR, I wouldn’t arbitrarily say no. They did give me my big break, after all.
P.S. Welcome, Kafu. Just to clarify, I’m not a longtime FR fan. I only really got into the setting as a result of my research for MoP. I avoided it as a player and a DM before that (except for the CRPGs).

Well, I’m not even gamer (except CRPG’s, starting with the original Pool of Radiance that started me on FR - I’d still play the old goldbox games today if I had working copies), but I have several FR sourcebooks that I’ll pull out simply because I enjoy reading about such a highly developed setting, and it also supplements the FR novels for which I have read many.
Aside from all that, please do not take the criticisms of MoP too hard. EVERY authors first book is typically their worst. The difference is, usually those don’t get published at all (and the public never sees them), much less hyped the way yours was (winning the open call, etc.). Most great authors will tell you that they wrote several novels and stories before their ability rose to a suitable level. I truly feel the expectations of MoP were too high (for this I admit I’m guilt). Just be proud that you HAVE a novel that has been published (and a sweet cover to boot). Many others cannot say the same thing.

For every negative review that’s been posted on the web, I’ve read a positive or heard from someone how much they liked it. I’m not really bothered by them. I liked the story I wrote, and I’m glad someone else liked it enough they wanted to publish it.

Personally, Kam, I think being pushed out of the nest (not picking up another FR contract) is a good thing for you and your writing career. Now you can focus on that story you keep teasing us with.

Get writing.

Any chance I can have your Draconomicon?

It’s about time you showed up here, Scott!
And no, you can’t. I never said I wouldn’t ever use my books again.
