Lifespan of a pulp novel

People are still talking about Maiden of Pain. It has been three months since the release of the book, and in the last two weeks, I’ve read new reviews posted by four different readers on a couple different websites. Frankly, I’m amazed. Sales on Amazon have definitely dropped off, and the fourth book in the Priests series is out. Sure, some international markets may just be getting their copies, but the recent comments appear to be from Stateside. I fully expected Maiden to disappear from the radar by now, especially without any future FR projects on my plate. I appreciate the continued comments, nonetheless, and am glad that folks are still enjoying it.

C’mon … were a cult following. No way are we letting you go that easy.

I wouldn’t be surprised, Kameron. Most of us don’t rush out to read a book as soon as it’s released. I went out to read Maiden mostly cause I (kind of) know you.

The only books I read as soon as they’re released are continuing books in series (Martin, Jordan, Rowlings, etc). Well, I read HP5 a year after release, but HP 6 within a week of release. So don’t be surprised to have people post next summer about having just read MoP.

That’s what you want, right? The continuing royalty check every year from readers discovering your book. ;)

Of course. I just didn’t expect that from this market, or at least with the volume of the past two weeks. I figured one or two might trickle in every quarter, but that most of the comments and discussion would be over after the first 60-90 days. I do know some people whose reading list is backlogged and haven’t got to Maiden yet, though.
