Critiquing

I received my fourth request to critique a manuscript today. It’s flattering to think that after having only written one novel, some people consider me an authority on good and/or successful writing. I’m not sure I’d agree with them all the time.
Like most other published, working writers, my answer to this eternal, inevitable question is “no.” While I hope to give back to the community through teaching or participating in workshops, my schedule is filled with work, family and my own writing for the time being.
If you are an aspiring writer, my best advice is to finish the manuscript and send it to the editor. That person’s opinion is the only one that matters. For those that must have input prior to submission, there are several great writing communities online. I have a link to Forward Motion under Writing Resources on this website. You can also check with your local institution for higher learning about writing groups or workshops in your area.
Good luck, and keep writing.

Critters is good, and I’ve heard good things about OWW, too.
