Meh!

That was our reaction as my wife and I left the theater last night. I’d like to blame it on the fact that I was tired after a long day at work and a night of being up with sick kids (and being a little sick, myself), but the fact is that neither the story nor the characters drew me in. Jack Sparrow was mildly entertaining, but the jokes were just as old and tired as I was. None of the characters had my sympathy, and I felt the mythology of Davey Jones was rather shallowly presented.

I didn’t mind the open ending, as I was aware of the upcoming sequel and how the two movies where filmed together. I did like that Kiera’s character finally admitted she had a thing for Jack, and my favorite scene was Jack stepping into the maw of the kraken, but little else about the movie attracted me. I wish I had gone to see Invincible or World Trade Center instead.
