Keywords: Relvan's Rescue
I sent out the second of my two secret project proposals tonight. The chance that this one will result in anything is even more of a stretch than the first, as it is unsolicited. I was encouraged by colleagues at GenCon to pursue this course, however, so I’m hopeful for a bite. The worst that can happen is they say “no.”
I returned to my Sails & Sorcery short story two nights ago. I’m not sure if I’ve revealed this or not, but it is currently titled “Relvan’s Rescue” and it features Janner Kohl, protagonist of my previous short-story-turned-novella-turned-novel. This particular episode takes place about four years prior to Janner’s Regret. I’ve been jumping around a little, writing scenes out of sequence on this one. I have the story outlined, so I know I won’t be creating any holes or writing myself into a corner by doing so. I’m currently at just over 2800 words. Janner and his squad have set sail on their mission, though I need to go back and finish a scene that takes place before they leave.
It has been very liberating to see the items on my project list completed and checked off. I once again feel like the master of my schedule and am able to do some leisurely things. For example, a friend and I are heading down to the Deshutes River to do some steelhead fishing this Saturday. It will be my first chance to use the new pole my wife got me for my birthday last month.

I’m glad your S&S story is coming along. I haven’t worked on mine past the general outline phase. Trying to finish up part 2 of my WIP first…
