Share your good reads

Rosemary Jones pointed me to a great web tool for readers and novelists. Goodreads.com is another “social networking revolution” of Web 2.0, where the users generate the content. This time, the focus is on what you read. Your profile consists of “bookshelves,” which are simply tags you create to categorize the books you’ve read, want to read or are reading. You can provide reviews of the books, which are visible to the public. The social networking comes from the ability to “friend” other readers, thereby gaining instant access to their bookshelves.

Goodreads.com also allows authors to create special profiles that list the novels they’ve written and collects all the user ratings and reviews for them. Your profile includes the usual personal info block, a link to your homepage, an events listing, any misc writings you want to post, uploaded videos, and favorite quotes.

For people with extensive personal libraries, like me, Good Reads can be a fun time-sink. I’ve added the site to my Links page under Reading Resources. If you create an account, be sure to friend me.
